Data Analysis & Modeling Services

Data Analysis & Modeling Services

Envirotactics employs advanced analytical and numerical modeling techniques for soil, groundwater, and vapor intrusion contaminant fate and transport. Our approach aims to minimize remediation costs while performing “sustainable remediation” to address environmental health risks for residential and industrial sites.

Vadose Zone Soil Contamination
To address vadose zone soil contamination, we use contaminant soil concentrations, grain-size analyses, and total organic carbon to calculate site-specific Alternative Remediation Standards (ARS).
For vadose zone soil modeling, Envirotactics utilizes:

  • Soil Water Partition Equation (SWPE)
  • Synthetic Precipitation Leaching Procedure (SPLP)
  • SESOIL model

Additionally, we use Geographic Information System (GIS) data visualizations and Exposure Point Concentrations (EPC) calculations as per NJDEP Attainment Guidance (e.g., Thiessen Polygon method, Averages, Upper Confidence Levels of the Mean) to address soil contamination.

Groundwater Contamination
To address groundwater contamination, we use contaminant groundwater concentrations, slug test data interpretation, and fate and transport modeling to estimate the extent and duration of the Classification Exception Area (CEA). For groundwater modeling, Envirotactics employs:

  • NJDEP analytical model
  • AT123D model
  • Numerical models MODFLOW and MT3D

Vapor Intrusion
For vapor intrusion, we use grain-size analyses and depth to groundwater to calculate site-specific ARS Groundwater Vapor Intrusion Screening Levels (GWVISL). Envirotactics' comprehensive approach ensures effective, sustainable remediation solutions that protect environmental health while minimizing costs.

Regulated & Unregulated Storage Tank Services

Regulated & Unregulated Storage Tank Services

Envirotactics personnel have extensive experience in the removal and abandonment of USTs. Our team is OSHA and NJDEP-certified to perform tank closures and subsurface investigations, as required for the removal or investigation of both regulated and non-regulated USTs in New Jersey. We expertly manage all phases of UST projects, including:

  • Tank registration
  • Closure plan application
  • Execution of tank removal or abandonment
  • Subsurface investigations

Envirotactics ensures thorough project completion, achieving case closure through either an NJDEP No Further Action (NFA) letter or a Response Action Outcome (RAO) letter issued by one of our LSRPs. Additionally, our project managers are NJDEP-certified for UST Closure and Subsurface Evaluations, guaranteeing the highest standards of safety, compliance, and efficiency throughout the process.

Envirotactics is committed to providing innovative and sustainable solutions for environmental remediation, ensuring informed decision-making and successful project outcomes.

Subsurface Soil and Groundwater Investigations

Subsurface Soil and Groundwater Investigations

The investigation of contaminated properties, or properties suspected of contamination, often necessitates the sampling of both soil and groundwater to determine the extent of any potential impact. Envirotactics employs advanced techniques to ensure thorough site characterization and accurate assessment of environmental conditions.

To initially characterize the site, Envirotactics typically utilizes a hand auger or Geoprobe to install borings for the assessment of soil and groundwater. From the borings, soil samples can be collected or temporary well point points installed for the collection of groundwater samples. For more comprehensive investigations, licensed well drillers are utilized to install monitoring wells as part of the investigation of the property. Our soil and groundwater investigation process includes:

  • Determining Impact Concentrations: Identifying contaminants of concern and the levels of contamination.
  • Delineating the Vertical and Horizontal Extent of Contamination: Identifying the spread of contaminants in both soil and groundwater.
  • Determining Groundwater Flow Direction: Understanding the movement of groundwater to predict the extent of impact.

By accurately mapping the extent of contamination and understanding both soil and groundwater conditions, Envirotactics provides critical data necessary for developing effective remediation strategies. Our thorough approach ensures precise identification and assessment of environmental impacts, enabling informed decision-making and successful environmental management.

Vapor Intrusion Assessment

Leaking underground storage tank systems and discharges from residential, commercial, or industrial operations can lead to the presence of volatile organic chemicals in contaminated soil or groundwater. These chemicals have the potential to migrate through subsurface soils and underground pathways, such as utility lines, potentially impacting the indoor air quality of nearby buildings. Envirotactics offers expert assistance with vapor intrusion guidance and compliance, providing indoor air quality investigations and sampling methods that adhere to current EPA and NJDEP guidelines.

Our services ensure that clients can effectively address and manage vapor intrusion risks, safeguarding indoor air quality and maintaining compliance with regulatory standards.
